Sharing a joint account

Joint accounts can need every account holder to switch on data sharing at the bank before they can be connected.

This page is for people trying to connect a bank account they share with someone else — like a partner or family member.

If your joint account is greyed out, missing, or showing an error when you try to connect it, there's usually a simple reason: your bank may need every person on the account to switch on data sharing first.

Why joint accounts are different

A joint account belongs to more than one person. So before it can be shared with an app, banks often check that each account holder is okay with data sharing. Until everyone has switched it on, the bank won't let the account be connected — even if you're the one who uses the account most.

This is a setting at your bank, not something Fiskil or the app controls.

How to fix it

  1. Each person on the account signs in to the bank's own app or online banking.
  2. Look for the data sharing settings — often under names like "Data sharing", "Sharing preferences", or similar. If you can't find it, search the bank's help pages for "data sharing joint account" or ask the bank.
  3. Each account holder turns on data sharing for the joint account.
  4. Once everyone has done this, go back to the app you were using and try connecting again.

Accounts just in your name are not affected

This only applies to accounts with more than one holder. If an account that's only in your name won't connect, something else is going on — ask your bank to confirm the account is eligible for data sharing, or email support@fiskil.com.

If it still doesn't work

If every account holder has switched on data sharing and the account still won't connect, contact your bank first — they can see exactly why the account isn't eligible. If the bank says everything is fine on their side, email support@fiskil.com with the name of your bank, the app you were using, and roughly when you tried, and we'll investigate.
